Global Crossing Select BayPackets to Enhance VOIP Services

BayPackets' Agility Network Services Platform to Facilitate International Carrier's Migration to IP Infrastructure

Fremont, Calif. - January 12, 2004 - BayPackets, Inc., a provider of enhanced voice and data solutions for wireless, wireline and cable operators, today announced that Global Crossing, a worldwide leader in IP communications solutions, has chosen BayPackets' Agility Network Services Platform (NSP) to enable the migration of its Account Code products and services from an existing circuit-switched network to a next-generation voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) network.

As part of this migration, Global Crossing expects to deploy BayPackets' Agility Authorization Codes application in early 2004. This will enable Global Crossing's enterprise customers to control service access and/or third-party billing.

"Over the past several months, we have been testing BayPackets' Agility NSP with satisfactory results," said Dan Enright, executive vice president of global operations, Global Crossing. " We expect BayPackets' platform to efficiently integrate applications from our TDM network to our IP network, helping us cost effectively manage our VoIP infrastructure and rapidly deliver new services to our customers."

BayPackets' Agility NSP is an enhanced services platform that can be deployed as a next-generation Service Control Point (SCP) or as an application server in a carrier's network. The Agility NSP provides a smooth transition path to IP networks by simultaneously enabling PSTN connectivity through an SS7 interface and next-generation connectivity through a SIP interface. The platform's full-featured service creation environment will enable Global Crossing to develop and deploy its own advanced services. Additionally, because it is an open standards-based platform, the Agility NSP supports deployments of third-party applications across Global Crossing's converged network.

"Carriers understand that moving voice and multimedia traffic to IP networks is a business necessity," said Kevin Mitchell, directing analyst, Infonetics Research. "A critical element of this migration is technology that provides a bridge between TDM and IP to squeeze value from legacy applications, deploy new enhanced services and enable a risk-minimizing transition to next-generation infrastructure."

"As an international service provider and industry innovator, Global Crossing continues to implement technologies to future-proof its network infrastructure while decreasing the cost of maintaining and managing its legacy platforms," said Ken Epps, president and chief executive officer, BayPackets. "By choosing BayPackets' solution, Global Crossing can expect a high degree of openness and flexibility in building, managing, and provisioning new converged services for their customers."
