Network Services Platform and Applications for Linux
Provide Carriers with Cost-Effective Options for Deploying
Enhanced Voice and Data Services
Spring VON, Santa Clara, Calif.
- March 29, 2004 - BayPackets, Inc., a provider
of enhanced voice and data solutions for wireless,
wireline and VOIP operators, today announced that
its carrier-proven Agility Network Services Platform
(NSP) and applications are now available on Linux.
With its Linux offering, BayPackets provides carriers
with an open, cost-effective, high performance option
for deploying enhanced services on off-the-shelf Linux-based
hardware instead of on traditional proprietary operating
systems. To learn more about BayPackets' solutions,
visit booth #617 at Spring VON, taking place March
28-April 1 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
"Linux is the fastest growing operating system
worldwide. Our decision to support Linux reflects
the increasing demand from service providers for a
more open, affordable infrastructure," said Ken
Epps, president and chief executive officer of BayPackets.
"The convergence of data and voice services,
as well as carrier migration to distributed architectures,
has brought the cost and flexibility advantages of
Linux to the forefront. BayPackets' NSP, in conjunction
with Intel® Architecture-based carrier-grade platforms,
can deliver hardware cost-performance improvements
of up to 40 percent to our carrier customers."
BayPackets'Agility NSP is a next-generation enhanced
services platform that can be deployed as a service
control point (SCP) or application server in a carrier's
network. It offers network operators unprecedented
openness and flexibility in the building, managing
and provisioning of new voice and data services, allowing
them to easily tailor their offering to the needs
of their business and consumer customers. At the same
time, operators are empowered to optimize their investment
in traditional, circuit-switched networks, while providing
a seamless migration path to packet-based networks.
"Increasingly, carrier-grade Linux and Intel
Architecture-based server platforms are becoming a
popular infrastructure option for service providers
seeking to benefit from a more cost-effective means
of deploying enhanced voice and data services,"
said Taufik Ma, general manager of the Enterprise
Platforms and Services Division at Intel. "Companies
such as BayPackets will drive adoption of these standards-based
open-architecture platforms and operating systems
to lower the cost and time required to deploy next-generation
networks and services while supporting higher subscriber
workloads."
